In addition
to its support of The Democracy Collaborative, the University of Maryland
at College Park is deeply committed to providing leadership in democratic
studies through a variety of initiatives:
- The university has appointed a number
of prominent academic leaders in disciplines concerned with research
and teaching about
democracy, citizenship and civic engagement.
- It has created more than a dozen centers
of study relating to the democratic experience that give depth
and breadth to the area studies.
- It has developed numerous opportunities
for community service, civic discussion and collaborative relationships
with communities and organizations, bringing faculty, staff and
students into the public domain to work toward addressing the
social and cultural needs of Maryland and the nation.
