The Collaborative sponsors a broad range of
intellectual and practical programs aimed at strengthening democracy
and building healthy communities locally, nationally, and
globally. Some of these activities take place on the campus of the
University of Maryland at College Park; some are held at affiliated
institutions of higher education; still others occur in communities,
in partnership with citizen organizations, or as part of international
conferences and fora.
- Public Events: By using platforms that include conferences,
web broadcasts, seminar series and colloquia, including our
Civil Society Lecture Series, The Collaborative is expanding the
public dialogue regarding democracy.

- Training & Teaching: The Scholar-Practitioner Engagement Program
is a flagship initiative or the Collaborative. A Fellowship Program
and a "New Democratic Curriculum" are currently in development.

- Engaged University: The civic mission of higher education is experiencing
a great renewal at the University of Maryland, as well as throughout
the country.

- Community-based Projects: Community focused initiatives and programs
of civic engagement based on real partnerships between citizens
and higher education.

- Global Civil Society: Long-range, democracy-related plans to address
the economic and social conditions that breed terror.
- New York Office Activities: The Democracy Collaborative maintains an office in New York City under the direction of one of its Principals, Benjamin R. Barber.
