The Collaborative is building a comprehensive program of teaching and
training programs for undergraduate and graduate students, practitioners, and community members.
On the campus at the University of Maryland, Collaborative scholars
lead seminars and classes on democratic theory, civic engagement,
community-based asset development and other topics related to democratic renewal. A new curriculum for democracy studies is in development.
Working with our Academic Affiliates, The Collaborative has initiated a program for training the next generation of young scholars in the theory and practice of democracy. A Global and Domestic Research/Action Colloquium involving leading academics and young scholars from the various affiliated and sponsoring institutes, together with a selection of engaged citizen practitioners, is in development.
We are also pilot testing a program designed to bring together
experienced practitioners, young scholars and senior academics to
explore system-wide issues and their relevance to local-level organizing
and concerns.
