The Democracy Collaborative, in collaboration with the Center for
the Study of Voluntary Organizations and Service at Georgetown University,
is preparing to conduct a long-term study of changing attitudes
and patterns of citizenship and governance, not only at the national
level, but in a range of different types of communities.
This project focuses on democracy, inclusion, and civic engagement
among people of color. The first Advisory Committee
Meeting is scheduled for September 2002.
Scholars affiliated with The Collaborative, working with
members of the Committee on the Political Economy of the Good Society
(PEGS), are exploring viable alternatives to a "good society"
beyond options offered by socialism, industrial capitalism, and
the traditional welfare state.
